IDK. I feel like that might be a better plot for a third movie. I don’t think we’re there thematically yet.
Actually I was rewatching the originals over break, and it struck me that the way the main action of both those movies began (I say both because there were only two movies, because The Last Stand was, as well all know, a fever dream induced by Scarlet Witch, and at any rate if it had happened he’d have died in the first twenty minutes) is with Charles getting taken out. In the first one, Mystique takes him down by jacking up Cerebro (I have so many problems with that sequence but that’s neither here nor there) and the second time Stryker’s got him in the neural inhibitor for the whole thing.
So my real hope is that they’ll get into a fight where Charles actually gets to fight, instead of sitting there with his thumb up his ass. And is it so much to ask for a rocket chair? Come the fuck on.

“Professor X gets taken out for the duration of the story” kicks off the plot of 99% of the comics, too. It kind of has to, since he’s so grossly overpowered, but hey, comic book writers, you overpowered him, you deal with him. Clonking him upside the head or screwing him up via Cerebro or sending him off on an alien spaceship to be with his space girlfriend = COP OUTS.

Furthermore, what’s the point of representation and re-affirming the personhood of disabled bodies if you refuse to LET those disabled bodies perform as people, and more importantly as people who can DO THINGS (because they can)? Seriously. Disabled characters should be allowed to be both disabled and kick ass. Because otherwise we’re just confirming the structure that says that disabled bodies are useless.

^^^^^ THIS!!!!!!!!
If the writers were really brave, they would have the guts to focus on a disabled superhero and his journey towards self-acceptance while kicking a lot of ass. Charles Xavier is such an amazing character never explored in the films, and now they want to cop out and focus on Magneto again because it’s, well, easier. It’s frustrating.
And, sorry anon, but I don’t think that any fan of Charles would ever write that confession.
