I forgot until I researched the 90s cartoon how dickish Professor X coud be sometimes, and, at first, I was like, “what? naw, the Professor is awesome and kind and never mean or selfish.” but then I remembered how he knew who Wolverine was in the movies, but didn’t tell him what he knew. Or how in comic canon (and I totes looked it up on Wikipedia, because I has no monies and little time to go find the comics) he was the one who wiped Logan’s memory in the first place, and like so much more, and somehow, I liked him more than the kindly old professor x that my mind had created. So, nonnie, I love you and know exactly what you mean. Man, Charles is an outright ASS sometimes.  But it’s part of what makes him awesome.  I love how hard he strives to be this idealist, but how often he succumbs to his frustration.  He’s one of the most interesting, complex characters in existence.  It’s an insult to Charles to put him on a pedestal.  He’s not perfect.  If he was, he’d be boring. This. I remember making a post about the deleted scene in Moira’s room with the CIA in which I pointed out that Charles isn’t perfect and also made a comparison between his and Erik’s goals at the time (sneaking off to get some vs. sneaking off to steal Shaw’s files), and then somehow it turned into a mini-wank about how I dare choose Erik-the-villain over perfect Charles and I was completely blindsided by it because that post had been meant as an affectionate exploration of Charles and his flaws, it had made no comment on Erik’s morality, and until that time I wasn’t aware that some people apparently thought the lesson of the movie was that I had to choose between them. But the problem is that the fandom almost never comments on Erik’s morality and too many times magnify Charles’ flaws. I really have no problems seeing Charles as a flawed human - or mutant - being, because it would be unrealistic (and stupid) if he were perfect. What bothers me is that I’ve seen Charles being called an asshole of the worst kind because he didn’t want to date Raven blue, but when it comes to Erik trying to kill thousands or leaving Charles injured on a beach we must be understanding. Parameters, we must have.
