This scene has always annoyed the fuck out of me, from first viewing. Anyone would have seen that Raven wanted to go with Erik, even her “oblivious” brother (oh, give me a break). The only reason for Charles’s self-deprecating, self-incriminating response was the writers attempting to set him up with failures to counter Erik’s. It makes no sense and infuriates me.

Wow, are you me? Exactly my thoughts. I always hated that Charles was the one to feel sorry, when he had a bullet on his back and was being abandoned by his sister and best friend. And Raven’s last words weren’t even directed to him. Wtf.

The writers wanted to write Charles as the one we should leave behind to go after the oh-so-cool Magneto, and I hate it. Hate it.
